Kelly Dyer, an Asian woman originally from Taiwan, is the founder of JKD Brands, LLC—an ancillary business that has served the U.S. legal cannabis industry for over ten years. In 2026, she and her team have expanded their reach beyond Alaska into the lower forty-eight states with the launch of a new company and a new flagship product: Tap Tubes.

Kelly’s journey in cannabis began in 2015, when legalization first took shape in Alaska. Her and her husband, Jim Dyer, along with their family entered the emerging market with a focus on packaging, design, and regulatory compliance. Throughout this work, Kelly noticed that most cannabis containers—especially j-tubes and pop-top tubes—were made from #5 plastic. After handling millions of these units over the years, she felt a growing responsibility to explore more sustainable solutions.

Driven by a deep desire to reduce plastic pollution, Kelly began researching paper-based packaging. What followed was a five-year development journey. The result was Tap Tubes: a patented, dual-layer paper tube featuring a simple “tap to open, tap to close” mechanism. Its reinforced structure and uniquely engineered inner cap help maintain product freshness, while the paper-based design remains biodegradable, compostable, and child-resistant.
